||||
|
A form of chalcedony quartz, onyx is one of the oldest gemstones known to man and has been used in everything from wine goblets to signet rings. Popular during the Art Deco period, onyx lends itself to bold, geometric designs. It is a natural for accenting diamonds and pearls as well. Usually found banded in white and black, the highly prized jet black material is actually very rare. Imported chiefly from Brazil, Uruguay and Madagascar, onyx is purposely dyed to obtain an even and lustrous color. |
