![]() Tourmaline |
||||
|
Known in its own right for just over two centuries, tourmaline was often confused with other stones. Its name, in fact, comes from the ancient Sinhalese "turamali"...or "mixed precious stones". Tourmaline occurs in a dazzling array of colors and includes rubellite (red or pink), indicolite (blue), chrome (green), and watermelon (pink surrounded by green). It is also known to be bi-colored, and even tri-colored. Found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Africa, and the United States, tourmaline is sometimes heated or irradiated to lighten, remove or intensify a specific natural color. |
